Fund for Our Economic Future’s Bethia Burke Promoted to President

Bethia Burke, vice president of Cleveland’s Fund for Our Economic Future, will be the organization’s next president.
Brad Whitehead announced in November that he would step down after 15 years. He will remain on staff in senior advisor role while working as a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution Metropolitan Policy Program.
Whitehead, 59, said that he was stepping down to “lead by example,” making way for the next generation of Cleveland’s civic leaders. Burke, who has worked for the fund since 2010, was promoted to vice president in 2018.
The Fund for Our Economic future is most recently known for the “Two Tomorrows” report last year, which launched a regional discussion about Cleveland’s economic future and how diversity and equity plays into it. The organization also organized “The Paradox Prize,” which looks to solve the disconnect between transportation and employment.
“I take this job seriously,” Burke said. “Issues that people are facing across Northeast Ohio are real and matter every day. This work is a gift to get to do. It’s very interesting, it is meaningful, and, if we’re doing it right, really matters.”
