Meet Our Summer Intern
I’m Madison Scagnetti, the Fund’s summer communications and development intern. The work I’ll be assisting with perfectly corresponds with my fields of study. I’m entering my junior year at Cleveland State University, double majoring in promotional communication and urban studies. This fall, I will apply for the BA+MPA program, which, upon acceptance, would allow me to begin graduate coursework. By doing so, I will complete my BA and Master of Public Administration in five years rather than in six.
Cleveland State (a Fund member!) proudly supports the idea of engaged learning, which can be fully embraced with opportunities such as this. Through this internship experience, I expect to improve my communication skills, network with community leaders, and, most importantly, increase my understanding of the nonprofit sector that I wish to contribute to in the future. My appreciation for the nonprofit sector has flourished since I became a member of Viking Expeditions, a student-led service organization that arranges volunteer opportunities for students both in the Cleveland community and nationally. When classes are back in session this fall, I will be juggling schoolwork along with my new role as the vice president of Viking Expeditions.
In my free time, I enjoy running, cooking and eating the food I make, of course. I’ve been an avid distance runner for more than 10 years now. The farthest I’ve run so far is 17 miles, but I hope to challenge myself to run a marathon in the future. Another hobby I developed once moving to Cleveland is exploring. There are so many sites to see, my favorite so far being the Cleveland Museum of Art. When I’m not exploring the city, I’m driving through the cornfields of Northwest Ohio to visit my small hometown of Bellevue. My parents are both my best friends and biggest supporters so I find myself visiting home often. On occasion, I convince my parents to visit Cleveland to enjoy some of my favorite places with me, whether it’s the art museum or a new restaurant I’ve stumbled upon.
I’m excited to make the most of this great internship opportunity. I also look forward to meeting Fund members and others connected with their work this summer.
