Leaders Convene at CEO Workshop in Pittsburgh to Tackle Inequality

Fund President Brad Whitehead was featured in this Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article about a CEOs for Cities workshop, during which he spoke on what it takes to achieve Growth & Opportunity, and why both are needed for a strong economy. The workshop attracted nearly 300 civic leaders from 40 cities, including several from Northeast Ohio, to discuss strategies for promoting inclusive economic growth.

A May 27 story in The Plain Dealer talks about the efforts underway "to realize the economic and aesthetic potential" of Opportunity Corridor, a $331 million, 3.5-mile roadway scheduled to be complete in 2019. The article mentions the $150,000 grant the Fund for Our Economic Future has made to support the development of an Economic Growth Strategy for the areas surrounding the Corridor.

Koehler. The Fund is a partner in Team NEO, a collaborative effort between Northeast Ohio's business and philanthropic sectors and JobsOhio. 

Fund for Our Economic Future Approves Grants to Support Two Workforce Development Pilots

CLEVELAND--June 3, 2015--Members of the Fund for our Economic Future (the Fund), a philanthropic collaboration, have approved grants of up-to $700,000 to support two workforce development pilots designed to help Northeast Ohio residents get, keep and advance in jobs, and ensure the region's talent pool is a comparative advantage for companies. Specifically, the approved grants will go to Towards Employment, a Cleveland-based nonprofit whose mission is to empower individuals to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency through employment, in support of the WorkAdvance and TalentNEO pilot programs. 

A Model Survey

In this guest blog post, Jim Rokakis and Paul Boehnlein of Western Reserve Land Conservancy's Thriving Communities Institute describe a recent undertaking in Akron to survey all 97,000 of the city's parcels. This type of information can help civic leaders across Northeast Ohio make wise development decisions that lead to jobs for those residents who need them the most.
