Fund for Our Economic Future Announces Two New Staff Members

CLEVELAND--July 26, 2016--The Fund for Our Economic Future today announced the hiring of two new staff members and named an Akron entrepreneurship fellow.

Kevin Alin joins the Fund as its director of regional engagement, succeeding Chris Thompson, who left at the beginning of July to lead his own consulting practice, Civic Collaboration Consultants. Mr. Alin most recently served as executive director of school choice & enrollment for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD). Originally from Portland, Maine, Mr. Alin was a Coro fellow in the Bay Area where he worked in city administration before coming to Cleveland in 2010. Prior to joining CMSD, he co-founded Citizens Leadership Academy, a high-performing middle school in Cleveland.

In the regional engagement role, Mr. Alin will stay in tune with what is happening at both the regional and grassroots levels in Northeast Ohio. He will work to ensure that economic growth initiatives incorporate equitable access to opportunity and that social opportunity initiatives link to economic growth. A notable example of this is the business development efforts related to the Opportunity Corridor in Cleveland.

The Fund also welcomes back Peter Truog, who served as a Fund fellow during the summer of 2015. Mr. Truog, most recently an associate at consulting firm Oliver Wyman in Boston, will fill the newly created position of director of civic innovation and insight. In this role, he will be responsible for helping our Fund and community leaders better understand whether and how our work (and that of our partners) is making an impact, determining ways for the community to better visualize what is happening in our economy, and developing concrete tools that will improve decision making both within our Fund and in the community. A specific example of this work is understanding the relationship of business expansion decisions to job access for residents of economically distressed neighborhoods.

Lastly, the Fund named Heather Roszczyk as Akron entrepreneurship fellow. Collaborating closely with Akron entrepreneurs, the Fund's Akron-based members and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Fund created the two-year fellowship to strengthen the entrepreneurial culture in the city of Akron. Through the fellowship program, Ms. Roszczyk will connect entrepreneurs to resources that will help their businesses succeed; provide financial support to existing and emerging efforts to strengthen Akron's entrepreneurial culture; and promote entrepreneurship in the city of Akron in ways that encourage more individuals to start businesses.

Ms. Roszczyk has worked in Akron for six years, most recently as director of marketing and public relations for the Akron Symphony Orchestra. Before returning to her native Northeast Ohio in 2010, she worked for Nike in Portland, Oregon, where she managed a $400 million global footwear line.

"Kevin, Peter and Heather make great additions to the Fund, and we look forward to the new energy and ideas they'll bring to our important work," said Fund President Brad Whitehead. "I am confident they will help us take our Growth & Opportunity efforts to a new level."

Fund Chair Brian Frederick, president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Lorain County, echoed this sentiment. "As we are ever focused on bringing increased Growth & Opportunity to Northeast Ohio, we welcome our Fund's own growth and development to keep us sharp and help us cultivate a new generation of civic leaders."

About the Fund for Our Economic Future

The Fund for Our Economic Future is an alliance of funders -- foundations, corporations, universities, health care systems, business and civic associations, government entities, and individuals -- who pool their resources and collective know-how to advance economic growth and increase access to opportunity for the people of Northeast Ohio through improved job creation, job preparation and job access, an approach we call Growth & Opportunity. We do this by building shared community commitment, supporting high-impact collaborations and marshalling strategic funding. Since our founding in 2004, the Fund has raised more than $100 million for improving regional economic competitiveness. Our efforts have helped retain or create more than 18,500 jobs, add $760 million in payroll, and attract $4 billion in capital to Northeast Ohio.
